How a 2 Minute Video Could Win Your Business £100,000

The most expensive webcam of all times? by Jakob Montrasio

You'll need to be quick (deadline this Thu 16th Sept), but a new competition from the Technology Strategy Board's (TSB) new £600k Launchpad competition gives the chance for small business to move their best ideas from the drawing board into the real-world.

The judges are after "disruptive solutions for energy, digital, healthcare, & sustainability problems" that can be addressed in three month projects - the full background is outlined on the TSB website.

They're looking to see what you'll do with £25k and for the lucky few that are invited to put forward a written submission and pitch at Innovate 10: Connecting for Growth on 12th October in London, with the opportunity to run their project over six months with £100k funding.

This competition differs from previous Partnering for Innovation competitions and the good news is that it's much easier to enter. "What do I have to do?". Thanks for asking, good question.

To enter, just record a 2 minute video pitch, upload it to YouTube, and fill in the competition entry form. Anyone can see your vide, so think carefully about what you're putting in the public domain.

To stand the best chance of winning, the video pitch should cover:

  • What is the challenge or opportunity being tackled?
  • Why is it important?
  • What approach will be taken?
  • How will the solution be commercialised?
  • What impact it could have if successful?
  • Why is the Technology Strategy Board investment needed?

The TSB is targeting the competition at small companies to try and ease the difficulties in getting support at the very earliest stage of developing an idea. The video pitches will be available on the website for viewing and more importantly, commenting as the competition progresses.
