Description

Digital publishing is not just about books or book publishers. Technological innovation is creating opportunities for partnerships between different industries including publishing, games, film, mobile and digital. New players, from beyond the publishing world, are entering the market, presenting new challenges and possibilities.

Our presentations and discussion will look at how industries can collaborate to create new products, services and revenue streams by taking advantage of digital innovation.

Confirmed speakers for the discussion include:

Eric Huang, Publishing Director, Media and Entertainment, Penguin, whose background at Disney and extensive experience developing digital partnerships, will help us explore the seismic shifts in the publishing and media industries.

Chris Book, Chief Executive Bardowl, a recently launched subscription audio book service described as ‘Spotify for audio books’.

Kate Pullinger, a writer for both print and digital platforms. Her digital fiction projects include  Inanimate Alice and Flight Paths: A Networked Novel.

To illustrate some of the exciting activity currently taking place, we are also hosting a series of quick-fire presentations from publishing innovators, including:

Dave Addey, Managing Director, Agant, and Alyson Fielding, on Timeline World War 2 in partnership with British Pathé, Windmill Books and Dan Snow’s documentary company Ballista Media. Their app Malcolm Tucker’s Missing Phone was nominated for a TV BAFTA.

Trevor Klein, Head of Development, Somethin’ Else on Richard Dawkin’s The Magic of Reality app, a collaboration with publishers Transworld.

Alexis Kennedy, Chief Narrative Officer, Failbetter Games on StoryNexus, a platform that allows the playing and building of ‘storygames’ such as Fallen London, and Varytale, a publisher and retailer of interactive books.

Further speakers to be announced.

This event is produced in association with The Media Society and the St Bride Foundation.
