Description

This seminar will examine the next steps for the UK games industry. It is being structured in the context of the Culture, Media and Sport Committee Support for the Creative Industries report, the recently approved tax relief for the UK video games sector by the European Commission, the Office of Fair Trading's report Children's online games concerning issues of in-game purchasing, as well as the success of British video game franchises in 2013. Delegates will have a timely opportunity to examine the next steps for policy to ensure the UK video games industry can capitalise in the global digital marketplace, as well as respond to the EU's decision on proposed tax relief. Those taking part will also discuss the emerging commercial opportunities offered by next generation 'connected' consoles, digital distribution, and the rise of mobile gaming, as well as examine the key regulatory challenges for the sector - particularly in relation to piracy and the protection of children from the pressures of in-game purchasing.  We are delighted that Michael Denny, Senior Vice-President, Worldwide Studios, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe; Dr Jo Twist, Chief Executive Officer, UKIE and Dr Richard Wilson, Chief Executive Officer, TIGA have agreed to deliver keynote addresses at this seminar.
