Speaking of crowded libraries..is there any way to have folders within a
library or to have a couple different ones FOR THE SAME MOVIE. I don't
think this is possible but I thought I would give it a shot. If it is not
possible it would be one of the best added features for flash 4 -library
file system.

Hi Al,

Yah baby, Hit me with your rhythm stick one more time. Who could I possibly
pay to give me this kind of critique. No one I can unequivocally trust
except you guys. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It's tough to hold oneself
to a high standard alone. I want to be the best I can be but when others
hold you to it, there's a better chance of making it.

Yes I admit it. My whole site reads like a communication's faculty's student
show of class assignments displayed in the college auditorium. God, I've
loved every miserable minute playing with and being humbled by Flash the
last 5 months. I agree with you AL, I haven't addressed the fundamental
design issues you raise. I've just been learning techniques, tricks and
things, getting some skills with the native creation tools and emulating
what mesmerizes me on all those magnificent sites out there. (Many belonging
to you Listers) Best of all making my little goofy drawings come alive in
this my first attempts at animation. Would I have even tried this without
Flash?

My site is a Frankenstein of a design mess. I can't believe the thing even
functions. When I look at my Library I feel I've been transported to main
street on Mars in the middle of rush hour. Some times I am clueless as to
how to debug a problem because I have no idea how I got the thing to work in
the first place.

Reviews like yours have convinced me I need to let go the feelings of
preciousness I have for my new little creations and learn to hack and whack
my way to a leaner and meaner cohesiveness. Especially if I want to play for
pay in this industry. After so many years of working alone as a free-lance
illustrator, discovering online communities like this one has absolutely
rejuvenated me and made being a workaholic a freakin' party. No Art director
or publisher could stop me from uploading and posting my site on Monday and
inviting the world. I'm so proud I can't stop grinning all day. Now I guess
the next step is conscientiously applying the fundamentals of narrative and
design continuity. Oh yah, and getting a job.

Hey Man, to-nite you are my Jimmy Chen!

Bye,
Larry

My review of Larry's site:

Big Smoke looks good.
The K's are.... hard to say.... I give them a thumbs up I suppose. I
haven't seen that before.
I liked the quiet, rythmic music you used, it's professional and it fits.
When I see this I'm expecting some top notch work to follow. The simple
look exudes a feeling of confidence and quality.
The B with the flares is well done. (even so I would have ditched the
flares although though the effect was really well done)
The spinning B is well done, and the music is pretty good. On the other
hand the drastic change in color, style and music doesn't fit with the solid
work that started the movie. HOWEVER... the effect was strong enough to
make me focus more on it then the huge change in style.

Then the whole thing changes again with the beehive. It flat out... just
doesn't fit with what came before it. As far as style is concerned... cute
and or cool looking buttons are no good most of the time. Simple and SMALL
letters, numbers and words tend to look the most professional and be the
most useful. Differing noises over each button creates a confused feel.

As for the rest of the site... I don't think it necessarily belongs
together. It seemed to be many differing ideas put together. Many of these
ideas are well done by themselves... but together, they just don't fit.

Was that abrassive enough Larry? hehehe OK... now here is the thing. I'm
not rating you as if this was your first FLASH site. I'm comparing you to
the best stuff I've seen on TV, in print and on the web. For a first flash
site I'd say that you are WAY ahead of the curve. If I was you I would
forget about putting more effort into learning and creating special effects.
You are already good at it! Take the same energy and use it to find ways to
keep things looking and feeling similar while mercilessly WHACKING things
that don't belong. That's a really hard skill to learn, and I'm afraid
something that I need to work on myself.

Sincerely,

Al Rosetti
