I hate to argue with you but just a forward slash (/) is all you need
to refer to the main time line from a movie clip. I suspect there is
something else wrong. A couple of possibilities is that the label
name is spelled wrong somewhere (I've done that before) or trying to
put the action in the frame of the button instead of the instance of
the button or maybe testing it in the authoring mode. But, the tell
targeting action is correct.
