I have played around with GIMP on Linux and can say it has all the
abilities Photoshop has, but the user interface is terrible. And the
intereresting functions do not work (yet). I guess it can be an
a real alternative in two or three years (like Linux), but not yet.

So I prefer Photoshop and Fireworks, although the latest news about
Adobe made me prefer Fireworks. ;)
