FLASH: Kerning with text effects?

Hi all


I'm fairly new to flash and I've been 'hacking' some text

effects it what seems to be the standard way, that is

setting a MC with a single char text field and then 

building another MC to animate it in. The problem

I'm having is with spacing the text properly after

the animation is complete. At the moment I'm just

setting a varable "kerning" to a value and spacing the letters

with this offset. 


Anyone got a different approach?
