ok this is even odder... it works like a charm when viewed on the internet,
even though I did try it locally in a browser. when I uploaded it, and
opened it. it works great.

I am running into an oddity that maybe someone can explain.. when I am
inputting text from a text file, and the text has a line break in it, I get
2 line breaks... (in other words a blank space.) if I use <br> at the end of
a line that will give me the desired break, BUT I have to run the entire
line together in the text file for the desired effect or else I get 3 line
breaks. running it all together doesn't make it very easy to edit though...

I ran into the same dilemma with Flash4 only I didn't have <br> I had to
make my own parser... any ideas on why a raw carriage return in notepad will
cause so much havoc?
