I heard about problems with ESS several years ago, it seems. Is this an old 

card? Is it valuable to you? There are lots of good cards for under $50 US. 

Even the $15 Yamaha PCI cards seem just fine. Unless you're particularly 

attached to your current card, I'd recommend simply replacing it.
