Subject: New Shockwave stats available
From: John Dowdell
Date: Wed, 25 Feb 1998 23:49:20 GMT

The "Shockwave Distribution" page on the Macromedia website was updated
this week. You can get there by clicking the link in the "Shockwave"
section of the Macromedia website.

In it first year as the Flash plugin there were 24 million downloads from
the Macromedia site. This is in addition to the distribution on the Disney,
Microsoft, and RealNetworks sites, as well as the distribution on operating
system CDs from Microsoft and Apple, on browsers CD from Netscape and
Microsoft, etc.

More important, I think, is that this rate of increase is itself
increasing... there were over four million Flash engines downloaded during
January 1998. (That's nearly a hundred new viewers every minute of the
month.)

Flash started out the year with a smaller installed base than Director, but
the two are reaching parity... last month there were two Flash engines
download for every Director engine.

Anyway, please give the stats page a look. There's more work to do here
obviously, but if there's something that you particularly need when working
with your clients, then please bring it up on the list, thanks.
