viewing a flash3 file (correctly set in a browser window with aftershock) on a win 98 machine with IE4, you hear the sound, but don't get the graphics (just browser background colour).

This typically occurs when you don't have the Flash 3 ActiveX control installed. Check in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MACROMED\FLASH subdirectory for SWFLASH.OCX. If you right click on this file, then click on the Version tab, it should display the current version of the control.

If the version shown is 2.1r12, you have the Flash2 version of the ActiveX control which shipped with Windows 98. You need to visit http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download to update your control.

Your site appeared just fine on my computer, using Windows 98, IE 4.01, and the Flash 3 ActiveX control.
