Subject: FLASH: Designing for Monitor Resolution
From: Bill
Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2000 14:35:54 GMT

We've been having a discussion on a mailing list about what monitor
resolution to design for. I design ofr 1024x768, but others argue
that 800x600 is still the commonest resolution and design for that.
The following stastics were given me as current resoltions in use:

800x600 55.01%
1024x768 19.34%
640x480 19.24%
Other 3.19%
1280x1024 1.56%
1152x864 1.38%
1600x1200 0.25%

Im not sure I believe these statistics. Two questions: Does anyone
have a source for hard statistics about monitor resolution in use?
What resolution do people think one should design for?

Does anyone detect resolution in use and adjust pages for it? If so
is there a reliable method that works with all OSs, Borwsers and
browser versions?

TIA,

Bill Blank
