No, as stated, it's erratic. Currently it's the Helvetica family.

I'm not using TT if I can avoid it.

Have not tried this.

But I have this hunch that the last text modified is more prone to this
alteration than text edited earlier on.

Locking or not of the layer does not make a difference.
