Sam (list-mom) explained it once, that if a message is in a group that is
going out at the same time that one of them is going to an address that
bounces, the entire group of messages bounces back to the list server, and
it takes awhile for the server to sort out which address to remove.

Or something like that. He indicated that it happens occasionally, and
sometimes causes duplicate postings as well.
