you might find it easier to make a copy of the instance itself then rename
the copy you make, or if it is a different symbol, switch the symbol to the
one you want under the definition tab of the instance properties dialog box.
copies of symbol instances preserve transformation values. i often did this
in flash 3 when i wanted to reuse a series of button actions (you can
cutnpaste actions now though so we don't need to do that for buttons
anymore...).
