Ok, for fading text create your text in Flash.

ex. Black text on White bg.

Highlight the text with the arrow tool and choose 'Create Symbol'. Name
it whatever you want.

Create a key frame sometime later (i.e. 10 frames)

Put the frame indicator in the 10th frame. Highlight the symbol if not
already done, and choose 'Modify Element'.

Choose brightness from the drop down box and move the slider to the
right until 100%.

Highligh frames 1 through 10 and choose 'Tweening' from the pop-up
menu. Select 'motion', hit 'ok'.

Play the movie.

If your text isn't on a white background use 'Tint' instead of
'Brightness'.

Another thing would be to make the symbol the fade and just insert it so
that it isn't dependent on the rest of your timeline.

Hope this all makes sense and is of use.
