You should also try the Lossless option for exporting a bitmap (in the
library).

Indexing colors is just one way that may work to prep images for import
into Flash.
The 2 things that will keep a compressed image size down are:
1) Reduction of noise
2) Increasing areas of the same color.
Note, once indexed importing into Flash as gif or bmp is the same since
both are lossless.
Color reduction may or may not give good results depending on the
picture.
You can also use manual methods using tools like the magic wand and
lasso toools to prep your pictures for importing into Flash (or final
conversion to export format (such as jpeg).
