Say, very politely, "I'm sorry you feel that way, but my terms are very reasonable. Have a
nice day", and walk. A friend of mine just got screwed by GE Capital (you might have heard
of them) on a very similar project. All through development it was "Looks great! Fantastic
job!".... the day of the presentation it was "It went great! No hitches! Everybody loved it!"...
when it came time to collect it was "The presentation was flawed, nothing worked, we were
very disappointed, we don't pay for sub-standard deliverables".
Soooo......... My contract stipulates 50% of estimate upon contract signing, 25% of estimate
upon design sign-off, and 25% plus any overruns (documented and signed-off changes
approved by client) and expenses upon delivery. I've had one or two balks, and learned
later that the people they DID hire got screwed. So I'm very comfortable with my terms.
