That's probably the easiest way, at least.

Just make a square (or whatever shape you prefer) and place it in a
background layer, unless you want to do it as a Tell Target, which, now that
I think about it, might be much easier.

You could set up the Tell Target to go to a specific background color based
upon some other parameter/action within the Main Movie.

Either way works.
