Hmmmm....good to see someone with some commercial nonce (not).


As Brownie-Points.com is a young company ie has been in operation for months

rather than years we're trying to do the opposite of a lot of .com

businesses and look after the money invested in it. So whilst 300.00 might

seem like nothing to you, to us it's an unbudgeted-for amount. The idea was

aiming to achieve several things at once; get back the money spent, raise

some funds for a local charity, and raise a little awareness for the

company. We weren't out to make a monetary profit on the deal. I also said

in the mail that the ticket money raised was going to charity - so your

comment about "more than forty entries.." isn't relevant. Plus I asked for

opinions on the idea; preferably the considered variety though.


As for not entering any raffle where you had to pay for the prize I can

understand, under normal circumstances. But if you look around you'll see

that PS2's are being offered and auctioned at some ludicrous prices (450.00

- 1500.00). We maintained the retail price - with no intention to take

financial advantage of the market forces at work.

Give it away for free you TFGs.... after all, you're bound to get more than

40 entries, aren't you? I wouldn't enter any raffle if I also had to pay for

the console.

With it coming up to the Yuletide we thought it might be a nice idea to use

it to raise some money for a local charity. Our thinking went along the

lines of: if we could get people to donate £10 to charity we would enter

them in a draw.  The winner could buy the unit at the normal price which,

considering some of the ludicrous prices these things are going for, seemed

like an attractive idea. B-P would get some publicity through promoting it

and the shop and the site would get some traffic as people made their

donations.


We've discussed it here and it all seems to hold together but we aren't sure

about the legality or correct procedures that might apply. I've looked at

various sites that advise on gaming, lotteries etc. but nothing seems to fit

the bill. Can anyone out there give any advice as this is outside our normal

remit? Also I'd appreciate feedback on the idea. Quick though otherwise

we'll run out of time.
