I'd like to add my voice to this.
It's one thing to have an established domain that someone else makes a good
offer for but not just buying up names you can hold people with less
foresight(?)to ransom.
IMHO one should have to apply for business names with a clear intention to
trade and if the site is not active within, say, 6 months the domain should
be clawed back into the pool.
The situation could perhaps best be resolved now by making new domains .ltd
or .plc only available to registered companies. Perhaps issued by Companies
House along with Co formation. They could throw in trademark recognition at
the same time thus clearing up a whole other mess.
