o Idealab! Seeks Strategic Partner in Europe


LONDON -- After laying off about 10% of its staff

last week, Internet investor idealab! is looking

for help in Europe. David Ishag of idealab!'s European

office confirmed that the firm is seeking a strategic

partner in Europe. Mr. Ishag said, "At this stage

we're not talking about the discussions," but revealed

that idealab! is engaged in talks with at least

one firm in the telecommunications industry. Mr.

Ishag said that idealab! had no plans to open additional

offices in Europe but would support the rollout

of its portfolio companies. Idealab! has run into

difficulties recently with several companies of

its Internet-heavy portifolio going out of business

and the withdrawl of its planned IPO.
