In fairness, I have to disagree here, or maybe I'm just extremely lucky
working where I do (Syzygy). Training is something that is taken very
seriously here, and we are actively encouraged by management to develop new
(or improve on existing) skills. This includes the week's paid leave to
study something industry-related, on the sole condition of sharing one's
learnings afterwards, and applies to all members of staff.

Other initiatives include regular lunchtime seminars and case study
presentations. I could go on, but I think you get the picture...

I'm sure this can't be an isolated case...?
