I am a lawyer, but I trust the Registrar too - we advise clients that email

addresses are personal data - no questions asked, open and shut case.  There

are some trickier issues (cookies for one..)

I am not a lawyer but the Data Protection Commissioner's site includes a

compliance note called "Internet: Protection of Privacy - Data Subjects"

which states:


"E-mail addresses are personal data. If you find yourself on a directory or

user list you can request to be omitted

from it.


"You can also ask not to be sent 'junk e-mail or SPAM' and where the sender

is based in the EEA they should

comply with your request."


That will do for me.
