2014's BBC Worldwide Accelerator Program Now Open to Applicants

BBC Worldwide Labs is a six-month programme for emerging media digital companies in the UK. It is designed to help startups gain traction by working closely with the experts at BBC Worldwide across all divisions: from technology and content to marketing, sales, advertising and legal, as well as having access to prime office space in the Media Centre in White City.

And the good news is, applications for 2014 are now open.

Eligible companies will:

·       Focus on the intersection of technology and media
·       Have a synergy with BBC Worldwide business units & brands
·       Have a product in market or ready to launch

Do you have a startup that’s looking for success, or know of someone who does? Take a look and apply here.
Partnerships secured so far are:
·       Foodity & BBC Good Food - an e-commerce toolkit that allows publishers to turn recipe ingredients into online shopping baskets.

·       WireWAX & BBC News Online - A video tagging tool that adds clickable ‘tags’ to moving people or objects.

·       Ko-Su Mobile & BBC Motion Gallery Education – a mobile learning platform that allows users to create and publish interactive content that makes teaching and learning via connected devices accessible to anyone around the world.

·       Future Ad Labs & BBC Good Food - Playcaptcha is an alternative to the traditional (and tedious) human response tests known as ‘captchas’.
Other companies include The Backscratchers & BBCW Procurement, Peekabu Studios & BBCW Corporate Comms and Jack Burke & BBCW YouTube.

To celebrate the launch of the 2014 programme they are hosting an event on Monday 3rd February at Google Campus from 6:30pm.

This panel event, chaired by Alex Wood from Tech City News, will see previous Labs’ companies talk about the programme and some of the commercial partnerships obtained with BBCW. There will also be the opportunity to hear objective feedback on how investors and partners view startups that come through these types of accelerator schemes.

Redundancy – The Backbone of eCommerce?

Redundancy isn’t a positive word, but in digital business it can be the difference between success and failure.

It’s a term used across the high tech sector, especially in ‘software as a service’ or SaaS, where the service is based in ‘the cloud’. SaaS is a growing sector because it’s a rapid means of improving site operation and data analysis, and it enables smaller brands to compete.
