You might want to check out http://www.beatnik.com .

Under Flash with Beatnik you can get very close to what you want, but I

would advise porting this project to Director8 using Flash movies and the

Beatnik xtra for Director.

If you decide on a Flashnik solution (Flash + Beatnik) spend some time at

the Beatnik site. Download the music api docs (these are one of the best

written docs I've had the pleasure to find) and browse through some good

tutorials on Flashnik. You'll soon be able to start building what you want.
