It is a server setting that ensures files (Flash) are served correctly.
All browsers except MSIE 3+ Win 95/98/NT rely on it.
Just because it works in some browsers doesn't mean it is set correctly.
The only way to insure that it will not interfer with visitors viewing
your Flash site is to make sure it is set correctly. If you don't know
if the MIME is set for Flash then you should find out. It is easy to

If it is not set correctly then you should get your web server
administrator to set the MIME type for Flash. Meanwhile, please warn
the list members when you post here that the MIME is not set -- it has a
tendancy to give erratic viewing results and occasionally will crash
