I would create a Flash driven site, and make it look good. You can use it as
a forum for people to see how powerful it really is. I know that just by
showing people http://www.gabocorp.com <http://www.gabocorp.com> they are
in love with what it can do. The toughest thing I come across is that people
want to edit the pages themselves. So instead of making the entire site a
large movie try incorporation a bunch of small ones. For example if you have
to make a tree control, flash is great for that. Besides many don't know the
DHTML enough to edit themselves. People like to edit with their WISYWIG
editors like FrontPage or others. So my suggestion is make it good with some
smaller movies, yet still make it so the end user can edit it with what ever
they like.

Hi Everybody,
A quick (but very sincere) thank you to everyone who posts to this
list
- it has been absolutely invaluable. I have run into a situation
and
was wondering if anyone could help. I am currently trying to
introduce
Flash content into a large corporate intranet. The company is
entirely
IE3 oriented - and they are in the final stages of migrating from
Windows 3.1 to Windows 95. Because of the older browser and the
older
operating system variables, the Flash/Aftershock option has proven
itself (to me) over and over again. The problem is that the
company's
I.S. department does not currently support Shockwave or Java. It
does
support Microsoft FrontPage (although I currently design in Allaire
HomeSite), and they recommend that I check the FrontPage manual and
learn how to make FrontPage rollovers. I.S. also responds to my
request
with a vague response of, "use of shockwave technology would be
contrary
to the standards which we are using for publishing". I would love
to
be able to use Flash, and I honestly feel I could win some people
over
to the idea if I could provide them some hard data of how
Flash/Aftershock works "technically" - as well as how harmless it is
to
an intranet, easy to use, etc... I will admit that I do have a bit
of a
prejudice against designing in FrontPage (seems to mangle all of my
code), but I will certainly use it if I am way off base here. Sorry
this is so long, but any ammunition for this cause would certainly
be
appreciated.
Thanks again,
Derek Fitzgerald
