Bio
I founded Chinwag in 1996, I blog a bit, email a lot, spend lots of time chatting and am slightly obsessed with high-quality coffee. Interested in conversations and community and how the technology is transforming the world, and the interactions between us.
I started working online in the very earliest days of the web, when glamour was having a page that included both a table and a background colour! I was one of the UK’s first full-time webmasters for Time Out magazine, executive producer of the BAFTA-nominated movie website, Popcorn.co.uk, for Carlton plc and have consulted on email, digital marketing and events projects for clients including MSN, the BBC, World Wildlife Fund, UK Trade & Investment and the Creative Industries Knowledge Transfer Network.
My aim is for Chinwag to act as hub for those working in the digital industry with a vibrant community that helps shape the site and the services we provide:
* Chinwag Jobs (http://jobs.chinwag.com) - the leading jobs board for the digital industry * Digital Missions (http://digital-mission.org) - a series of overseas events specifically designed for digital companies looking to expand internationally
Chinwag also provides consultancy support to clients on digital marketing, recruitment, social media and community engagement, event development and marketing for the digital industry.
I write regularly about the digital economy, communities that evolve around social media and digital marketing and have been chuffed to appear on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 5 and Bloomberg TV.
On the technology-front, I dabble with Perl, PHP, Drupal, CSS, jQuery and have been known to tackle server-related administration although this often raises eyebrows with hosting companies.
Work-related bloggage lives on Chinwag (http://chinwag.com/blogs/sam-michel), whilst other ramblings, geekery and Drupal-related verbiage are available on my personal blog, Toodlepip (http://www.toodlepip.co.uk).
