Maybe I'm missing the point here, but in your sound you can set the
"Synchronization" to "START". The "START" setting will check to see if
the sound is already playing, and will start the sound only if it isn't
already playing. That way you don't get the overlapping of multiple
instances of the sound playing.

Is that what you were trying to achieve?
