Subject: FLASH: Modifying the default template for Flash3 ActiveX Control

Could the default.html template from a Flash 3 installation be used with v4?
Would this eliminate the need for HTML editing by those who do not want to edit HTML?

There was no default.html template in Flash 3. HTML coding was accomplished through a separate program called Aftershock, or by doing it manually, or through other programs such as Dreamweaver.

Editing the default.html template to refer to the Flash 3 ActiveX control instead of the Flash 4 ActiveX control consists of these steps:

1) Make a copy of default.html in the HTML folder - for our purposes, use the name "newdefault.html"
2) Edit the HTML file using a text editor.
3) Find the line where it says (among other things) version=4,0,0,0
4) Change the 4 to a 3.
5) Save the file.

This is assuming you don't want to use the default Flash3.html template, which already references the 3.0 ActiveX control. The Flash3.html template also includes some codes to create an image file for those cases where the plugin or ActiveX control is not available.

Page 247 of the Flash 4 manual describes how templates work; it's also found in the Help files under Publishing and Exporting > Creating Templates for HTML Publishing.
