fwiw, what others experience is that updating the system player via one
browser will, at most, prompt for an update of the browser shim in other
browsers. (Rephrased, many people update via Netscape and then view pages
using IE/Win32 without seeing what you saw.)

Yes, if you set your Shockwave Player to not divulge anything about itself,
then it would be hard for the server to automatically supply any missing
elements, that's true. If you're trying to complete a partial install, then
not hiding what you already have is a good approach to take.


I'm glad that you pursued this with the player specialists... in the next
rev we'll have to find ways to prevent this combination of choices, thanks.
