Searching the Flash technotes with keyword "mime" pulls up many hits. Some
of the other notes cited discuss specific operations for specific servers.
The following document returned from the search goes more into general
explanation:

"What is MIME? what does it do?"

Tip: For a list of all recently changed technotes, go
http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ , click "Top Technotes" just above
the search field, then click the top "See all new and update Flash
Technotes" link. (Hmm, it looks like there are many documents pending which
haven't been released yet....)
