>From what I know you can't really stream avi's that's why most people
compress them to real audio or netshow and then stream them with their
associated software. Remember large avi's will eat up processor speed on the
server and could cause some issues. If it's just avi's and the site doesn't
call for complex interaction then I would go with flash, however; if they
require more complex interaction like a controlled interface then you would
probably need to do it in Director or use some fancy scripting. So
ultimately it boils down to what is it the customer wants.

Hope this helped.

Chris:

I apologize for lack of clarity...

The client wants me to take a CD that was created in Director (just the
presentation) and comb through it and decide which pieces could be placed on
their newly created FLASH website. Most specifically, they'd be more
excited if I could take some specific AVI's and throw them up on the
web...That's where I get a bit confused. I'm unsure as to whether or not
they can stream (wouldn't that require RealServer or something?) or whether
or not the AVI files can be altered and/or "webified".

Hope that helps.

I guess I am a little confused what is it you customer wants to do? PLace
avi's on a web site? When you say "Client wants to take pieces of a Director
CD and throw it on the web site" Do you mean specific files from
Macromedia's Director CD or a CD created with Director? Are they avi's?

Sorry but need more input!

Subject: FLASH: Cross Post: Director & Flash

Hi folks...

The dilemma of today is the following:

Client wants to take pieces of a Director CD and throw it on the web site
(Flash & HTML).

Client is more specifically interested in putting up existing AVI files
(some are rather large).

My dilemma comes into play here:

Am I better off attempting to do this with Flash, or would I be better off
Shocking a new Director Presentation that I make myself that will suit their
design style and will be maybe a bit more "geared" for web usage?

Has anyone else had to deal with this type of problem, and if so, what are
some of the pitfalls that I'm about to run myself blindly right into?

Thanks, as always, for the assistance.
