What about doing something similar to Microsoft's Agent? You set it so it
does a series of actions and then is done. It can be easily programmed to
speek what ever you like and has the text version with it. Major downside
however, is the fact it is large in size. The install is over 2 megs
Aughhhhh. But if you could do something similar with flash that would be
interesting.

Excellent topic, thanks, Joke.

I can't recall messages here from people using either of those speech
synthesis tools directly with Flash. I wondered, though, what type of Flash
content you have that would need to be converted to speech... could the
text be embedded in the HTML itself?

For "animated buttons", could you be thinking of having a rollover which
announces its destination verbally? If so, then have you worked with the
movie clips in version 3.0 yet? It may be possible to build the interface
you wish entirely in Flash.

I'd second Colin's mention of the W3C's Web Accessibility Initiative, if
you haven't made use of it already. Their own mailing lists are also
available in web archive form... I've done top-level searches of recent
thread topics with terms "Flash" and "Shockwave" without results, but there
may be meat within the messages:

http://www.w3.org/WAI/

If you come across particular things within Flash that should be changed
for more general access, then we'd appreciate hearing them on the wishlist,
thanks... sending the request to wish-flashatmacromedia [dot] com would be great.
