Flash Java interaction

Hello all. I was wondering if anyone would point me

at some resources on how to transfer data between

the flash player (pc and Mac) and a Java applet. It

will be on a CD distribution and I need to pass text

to and retrieve text from a Java applet which will

in turn read and write files on the local machine.

Any suggestions? Can this be done?
