Well superficially they appear similar. However I suspect that under the
hood they are radically dissimilar beasts. For instance the behavior
engine in Dir7 does a *lot* more than simply keep track of a few lines
of Lingo you enter here and there.
There is some interaction possible between Flash and Director, BTW -- 7
does a pretty good job of handling Flash, and Flash has the capability
of talking to Director.
Finally, though, monolithic software may not be the best approach. A
recent thread over on Direct-L was covering some of the *massive*
problems 7.0 had, and related to the fact that modularization of the
environment may have helped prevent some of those problems. The current
way Flash and Director interrelate is, I believe, a modularization which
keeps both healthy -- Flash releases do not have to wait for Director
revisions and vice-versa.
