My other half is a computer engineer and I often shudder at his design
skills or lack there of...but I live in hope that some of my skills, work
and/or suggestions will eventually influence him. At least now he asks for
my opinion on design and I get him to double check any coding.

In direct response to your question.....I certainly hope that the industry,
or rather design, doesn't become driven purely by code. IMVHO, good design,
no matter what we are talking about, should always be an integral part of
any project. I would hope that somewhere, somehow coders and designers can
work as a unit to produce well designed and coded projects.

Or am I being too unrealistic or is that idealistic?

Robyn Winter
