So I'm late to this thread, but I just wanted to mention John Maeda's name
in conjunction with all this. Anyone familiar with his stuff? He has a nice
book called "Design by Numbers" that i'm working through. In it, he
postulates that to really design on the computer, one ought to put aside
prebuilt tools and create your own. So he invents a simple programming
language for "drawing." It's very interesting. His own design work is
totally original. Synthesis of great design and (presumably) great code.
