Why won't button stay in down state?

Beginner question--


I've made a button according to the tutorial. Put one in my movie. when I

click it, it changes to another graphic. So far so good. But I'd like the

button to stay selected ("down" graphic visible). Why won't that graphic

stay on stage--it reverts to the "up" position graphic. How do I get the

"down" position graphic to stay onstage until another action occurs?
