Hi Nigel,

The client has the original video tapes, so I guess we can start from
scratch. They are basically video clips with background music, and
sometimes a voiceover.

This is a *beautifully* produced CD. Outstanding! graphics & nice
integration with the video. It was produced in SuperCard for the mac &
ToolBook for the pc. They probably would have been better off to produce
it in Director to begin with, but oh well. The Mac SuperCard version is
flawless.

Got it. But if the plan is for RealVideo, we can have a higher framerate
than that can't we? 8fps on a video wouldbe rather skippy, wouldn't it?

Ok.

I think you're probably right, but still I'd like to see a web Director
Shockwave with imbedded video just to see. Probably a MM fellow will chime
in with an example.

>I understand your shop is mac so you'll know better than myself how good

We're both Mac & PC. (Have to be in this world).
At this point, I can confirm that streaming Quicktime does not seem to be
up to Real's level in the area of streaming. Although I believe they're
working on it. It's a tough decision as they are both world class
products. We love 'em both.

>I haven't played with it yet
>been to busy with the indeo format.
Lord please, not another one! **brain going into overload**

Where QT will run off of any server, RealVideo has a price.
You need a very hot (proprietary) server to serve them from. You can buy
your own, but the economical choice seems to be to use one of the ISPs that
are set up to do this. This involves an expense. For example, we
contacted AudioNet in Dallas (now Broadcast.com) for their _reseller_ rate.
It is:

Rates: all rates prorate to nearest quarter hour
Video: $100.00 per hour, per month (all you can eat)
Real Flash: $ 60.00 per hour, per month (all you can eat)
Audio Only: $ 40.00 per hour, per month (all you can eat)

(all you can eat) means no matter how many downloads. So, if you add up
all of the playtime of all the media, it is at the above rate. It makes
economic sense to use guys like these because they have major hardware, and
very fat pipes.

Thx Nigel for your comments.

Currently, I'm leaning towards Flash for the main project, with a pop-up
RealVideo for all the video clips. Unless someone can sway me
differently....

/w
