if you're using ie4 on a pc then you could have a transparent swf on one
layer and then have coloured table cells or gifs behind it on another layer
- and then change them using javascript / cgi / manual updating / or
whatever takes your fancy. If the desired result is a little more complex
then you would either need all the variables as finished swfs (could be
un-doable)
or use generator (pricey)

there may be other ways but thats all i can think of right now
