Subject: RE: FLASH: preloading swf files prior to LOAD MOVIE command
From: Len Harrison

I asked this question a couple of weeks ago but didn't get an answer. Maybe
I didn't make myself understood, maybe no one knows, or perhaps it got lost
in my other chatter. In any case, this looked like an opportunity to
resurface it again.

Suppose I have multiple html/flash files. The first one is pretty small but
has a lot of text and will take the user a while to work through. At some
point they will go to one of the others which are significantly larger. The
organization is like this:
intro.swf __ topic1.swf
|__ topic2.swf
|__ topic3.swf
...

User goes to each topic through intro as a hub. Each is a separate html+swf
document.

Now, if I preload the topicN.swf's within intro.swf while the user is
reading stuff, will they be written to the cache and will Flash (or the
browser) be smart enough to look for them there and not go to the server?

If so, does this work with nested movies? I.E.: topics 1,2, and 3 all use
"toolbox" which could be packaged as a movie clip inside each or loaded as
an .swf from each. If cached, the .swf load would work better. If not, the
movie clip would. Anyone know about this?

Finally, this may also have some significance. I don't seem to find any
.swfs in my IE cache. Does the activeX control just load these things
directly without caching them?
