Bit of a challenge, that! I'm sure others will answer as well, possibly with
a bit of grumbling. Actually these are not difficult questions at all. You
probably slipped through the cracks of the past few days because these
particular questions have been asked and answered many times.

There are at least three ways to do this. The best way is usually to put
your menu system in Flash on the main timeline. Then, depending on the size
of your secondary movies, you want to drop them on the main timeline as
either movie clips or .swf files. In a simple case like this, with only two
clips and something to switch them in and out, you are best served by
turning your flash files into movie clips. First insert a blank keyframe at
the very start of each flash file (1&2). I'll let you figure out how to do
that. Make the action on that frame a "stop". Make the last frame of each
movie clip jump back to the clip's first frame. Use a telltarget in the
same frame that targets _level0 and tells it to goto the label where you
want your menu system is set. Then select all frames across all layers and
do a copy frames. Create Symbol type movie clip and paste frames into the
first frame. Do this for both files. Open their library windows. Drag the
clips onto the timeline of your menu movie.

Give each clip an instance name in the definition tab of the symbol
properties dialog. Make the action on your menu buttons telltarget to the
instance names. The telltarget instruction to each movie is simply "play".
You might want to insert an empty frame after the buttons so your menu goes
away while your file 1 and file 2 clips play. Just send the main timeline to
the next frame and let it stop there. The movie clip will bring up the menu
again when it finishes playing.

Use the same method for embedded movies (.swf files). The third approach is
to embed your files 1 and 2 in separate Web pages and use a goto URL
<filename.html> to bring them up.

The simplest way to do this is to just pad the places where you want slow
animation with blank frames, assuming you are using tweening for your
animation. Reduce the number of frames to speed it up. If you have defined
each frame of your animation as your keyframes you will have to add,
duplicate or remove keyframes to accomplish this, although you might be able
to stretch things out with tweening if you have made your animated objects
symbols and kept them on separate levels from each other.

There are you answers, Lynn.

Now, everybody else who's read or written this in one form or another 50
times now, wouldn't it be a good idea to supplement John C's excellent site
with a FAQ? It would be nice to say "RTF <url> questions 1 and 7" instead of
"RTFM", investing bandwidth in lamenting newbie questions, or respecifying
the roundness of a wheel, which is my own inclination. Or does such a thing
already exist and I missed it?
