Stewart,

Is it a bitmap graphic? If so, this post from the Q/A archive
(http://i-technica.com/flashlist) might be relevant:
---
alpha tweening bitmaps shift position on stage
Contributed by: Matt Wobensmith (mwobensmithatmacromedia [dot] com), 3/6/00

We don't know exactly why this happens, but it's usually solved by
editing the symbol in which the bitmap appears. Select the image, and
choose Modify > Break Apart. This seems to fix this "jump".
---
Other solutions I remember hearing are to set the alpha to some small
number instead of 0 at the end of the fade, or 99 instead of 100 at the
beginning. You could check the "bugs" or "graphics" categories in the
archive for more info if you don't get another solution that works.

Regards,
Helen
