I would have thought it would work in any internet-capable
computer with a default browser and a default mail client
(that is correctly set up, of course). I don't think there's any
modern browser that can't handle a mailto link... so if you're
having trouble with others, that's surprising...

I'd have to agree with what some others have said and
suggest you create a flash form for the user to enter the email
info, and then post that to a script on a webserver which will
email it. The only reason I really don't like that option is that
the user has to enter her own email address. That allows the
possibility of a false or mis-typed address so there's no real
method of replying in that event. That method should allow the
mail to be sent under a lot of different configurations though.
