I'm sorry that the hard drive failed... that's happened to me, too.

Unfortunately, a SWF is a compact delivery file, and doesn't contain all
the authoring structures that were stripped out of the FLA. That's one way
it can be so much smaller than a FLA. You can get the artwork and
sequencing by importing the SWF, but that's about it.

If the only copies of that file were on the ruined drive, then the only
path I see might be some type of disk-recovery utility or service, sorry.

(After getting burned on the inevitable disk failures before, I now
habitually save important work to a new driver at the end of each working
session. That's of no use now in this situation though, I know. :(
