FLASH: IF statment problem

Hello,

Why can I not get the following statment to work:


if (textvar eq "No error"){

    gotoAndPlay(40);

}


I am using Flash 5. The texvar variable is recived from a

LoadVariablesNum function. I have placed a dynamic field with the

variable textvar.

The text field is populated correctly with "No error" but I can't seem

to get he action script to see it.This if is call after the field is

populated. and the movie just plays right threw  this action script.
