This method does use a detect page, but I'm not sure why that
would be such a bad thing. It's the only way that works
consistently, in my opinion. AFAIK IE4.5 on the Mac doesn't
have a plug-in array, so JavaScript detection of a plug-in on it is
impossible (and hence there will never be a JavaScript-based
solution that will work for that platform).
