I guess it really boils down to what you need the text to do, how much you

have and whether or not you need to be able to change it.


I wasn't sure how much of a difference each setting made and your question

made me curious so I did a little test. I created one text field with about

ten words and exported it four different ways.


1 - a text field with all outlines included.  This requires flash to export

all of the different characters in the font - the result was a 27K file.


2 - still text you can edit in the fla, but not a 'text field' (I don't know

what to call it).  Exporting this way flash only includes the characters you

use in the fla.  (You can get the same effect by checking the box that says

'include only specified font outlines' and then typing in all of the

characters you use, but why go through all that hassle) The result - 1.7K


3 - Text broken apart. The result 3.4K


4 - Text field, no outlines included.  the result - 149 bytes.


This of course depends completely on the font you use and how much text

there is. (I did test #2 and #3 to one long word with no repeating

characters and the broken apart text was smaller; 899 bytes to 1.3K)


So if you really want to know, I'd say do a test with your site.  Use a

piece of text that is representative of what you are working with and export

it a few different ways in a swf by itself.  That's probably the best way to

find out.
